Director of Bands
Mr. Timotheus Harper Mr. Harper is a proud graduate of Florida A&M University (FAMU) with a bachelors of science in music education. He started his musical career as a baritone player at Westview Middle School in Miami Florida. While attending Westview Mr. Harper learned to compose and arrange music under the instruction of Mr. Donald Hylor who also gave Mr. Harper the opportunity to become a lower brass specialist. With these skills, Mr. Harper attended Miami Central Senior High School (MCHS) where he was appointed 1st chair tuba his sophomore and junior year. During those two years Mr. Harper recruited and taught many young musicians the art of musicality and musicianship on various instruments. Music education became his passion and life work. During his senior year of high school Mr. Harper was appointed drum major of the school's marching band which further escalated his musical ambitions. Upon graduating from MCHS Mr. Harper attended FAMU where he dedicated his time to enhancing the music department on campus. He marched in the "incomparable" FAMU marching band, sat 1st chair tuba in Carnegie Hall with the FAMU wind symphony, student conducted the FAMU string ensemble (Instructed by Dr. Shelby R. Chipman), brass ensemble, tuba and euphonium ensembles (instructed by Mr. Ralph Jean Paul) and interned at Fairview Middle school under the instruction of Ms. Devan Moore. Mr. Harper is no stranger to the classroom. Before being appointed director of bands at Godby High School, Mr. Harper was a substitute teacher in Leon County for one year and worked as a teacher with the North Florida Freedom Schools summer program where he taught reading and self-empowerment to at risk students in Leon County. Mr. Harper was also an activity leader with the 21st Century after school program. These experiences and many more have prepared Mr. Harper to take Godby's band program to the peek of musical greatness. |
